Trustee News

October – The chip and seal process was completed and the amount of roads sealed was increased by 50%. The goal is to increase the amount of coverage each year.

Repairs to the first grade room in the community building are continuing. Thanks to Ed Harris for dry walling the ceiling. Members of the fire department will be helping with additional renovations.

November – The gas line for the new furnace to the community building was dug on the 13th and the tap has been installed. Thanks go the Monday Creek Township Advisory Committee for their efforts in obtaining the grant for the new furnace and additional upgrades to the community building.

The township received a check from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) in the amount of $19,206. This money is to help repair the damage to the roads caused by spring flooding. The trustees would like to thank David Nelson who has been working on the grant since July. All his efforts are greatly appreciated. He also has notified the trustees that money has been granted to repair the damages caused by Hurricane Frances. A check for $34,516 was received by year’s end.

December – A-1 gutters installed new gutters and downspouts on both the firehouse and community.

Citizen in the News

Our own Jeanne Bartholomew was recently back in our neck of the woods. Jeanne works for the USDA providing family farming know how to the Republic of Georgia (formerly of the Soviet Union). This past December she presented an interesting slide show demonstration about her work of instructing the rural people there to be able to diversify their vegetable crops and meat, such as mini sausage and cheese factories.

October Festival

Those who sponsored the October Festival would like to thank any and all folks involved in making the evening a success. Everyone enjoyed the fun time of an auction, games and more. Because of the efforts of the community the festival raised $1,640. Contratulations goes to Pat Wykle the winner of the “Quilt Raffle!”

Monday Creek Fire Department News

Officers

Paul Owings – Chief

Leroy Danison – Assistant Chief

Erwin Wolfe – Captain

Earl Spohn – Lieutenant

Brad Danison – Training Officer

The Fire Department is constantly working to improve their Fire/Rescue and First Responder duties for the residents of Monday Creek Township through additional training and updating of equipment. The Fire Department has been fortunate to receive three Department of Homeland Security Grants over the last three years.

Grant 1 – enabled the purchase of equipment to outfit the Rescue Unit. Items purchased were a complete set of Hurst rescue tools (for freeing trapped victims of auto accidents and other emergency situations), a set of air bags that can lift objects from 3 – 27 tons, and a air cascade system used to fill air bottles on firefighter air packs along with other various tools.

Grant 2 – to improve radio communications. New radios were purchased and installed in the vehicles that will enable communication between Logan City Fire, Fairfield County Fire and Hocking County EMS. A new base radio was installed with battery back up, fire pagers and carbon composite air bottles (weigh less and easier to carry) for firefighter packs were also purchased.

Grant 3 – to purchase of a refurbished tanker truck. Delivery is expected in early 2005. The township trustees will be accepting bids for the old tanker at a future date.

These grants are 10% matching meaning that for $90 of grant money received the department pays $10. The money paid comes from the Fire Department Auxiliary, which has several fundraisers each year. This past year they have purchased and paid for installation of night-lights on the front of the building and a new shingle roof.

The Fire Dept. welcomes anyone interested in joining (see calendar for dates and times). All fire department members wish to thank everyone for their past and continued support! Join us for our Soup Supper fundraiser on Saturday, February 21, from 4 – 7 pm.
