Trustee News                                                                We would like to wish everyone a Happy & Prosperous New Year! The plans for the township garage (50’ x 64’ building with three doors) have been approved. This will be used to house the road equipment and gravel. The building will be open for bids soon.

Trustee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at the Maxville Community Center at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public. If someone has a concern or complaint we ask that you contact one of us or attend one of our meetings. Each trustee is assigned certain roads as listed above in “Know Your Trustees.”

Last, but not least…Twp. Rd. 233 has now been widened.

You’re Invited!                      The Monday Creek Township Advisory Committee invites you to attend a meeting. We are a group of concerned citizens who meet at 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Maxville Community Center. The purpose of the committee is to identify the needs of the township and to work in conjunction with the trustees to seek out solutions. The committee has done such thing as organize the annual road clean-up project, offer a “Meet the Candidate” night before local elections, and solicit funds from grants to make possible the improvements in the community building and the roads.

We would like to invite the residents of the township to come to a meeting and share their thoughts. There is no official membership to the group, nor is there required regular attendance. If you would like to join us, please feel welcome to our meeting on any second Monday of the month.

Watch for the upcoming Monday Creek Township survey next quarter!

Monday Creek               Fire Department News

During the period from mid- August to Mid-November the Fire Department responded to three fire calls (one house fire, one vehicle accident and one response to power lines down due to an accident) and one first responder call.

Monday Creek Township firefighters have completed training through FEMA for Incident Command System Certification. They have taken IS-100 – Introduction to The incident Command System and IS-200 – ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents.

The firehouse ceiling has been painted by Bailey’s Painting and Drywall and it looks great!

Our fall fish fry was great success! We served 230 pounds of fish. Than you to the Monday Creek Township residents for your support! Speaking of frying, the department was given four deep fryers by the Glenford Lions Club. Thanks Glenford Lions – we’ll put the fryers to use next year!

Did you see the fire trucks at the entrances to the Maxville on the evening of Trick or Treating (October 26)? We added a level of safety for the youngsters out on the highway.

 WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Annual Roadside Clean-Up Tired of looking at litter on the township roads? Want to make a difference? Please dress in comfortable clothing appropriate for the clean-up (jeans, shoes/boots). Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Refreshments will be served at noon. Also If you wish to “adopt a highway/road,” contact Erwin Wolfe at 385-5321 for more details.

In The News

Be Aware!! Stealing Copper – this past year brought along with it thieves stealing copper from homes in Monday Creek Township. Copper is easily recycled with no questions asked which makes is very difficult for our Sheriff’s Dept. to catch them. Several things you can do to protect your home: have good outdoor lighting, don’t leave copper materials lying around, and be alert and cautious of suspicious activity or vehicles that look out of place. Better to be safe than sorry. If you see someone suspicious on your property or your neighbors call 911!

Deer Hunting in Perry County – Perry County hunters accounted for 2,232 deer taken during week-long season which is a decrease from 2,6747 that were harvested in 2005.

Maxville Historical Society – Thanks to everyone who helped and support our History Booster. We had a good return from our letters. It’s still not too late to join. Donations are only $5 and will go through October 2007.

We now have our copier in working order. Thanks to all of those who have worked on this project!

Do you have an interesting story to tell about your life in the 30’s, 40’s or 50’s in Maxville or Monday Creek Township? If so, please let Ramona Hicks know at 385-6100.

A Page From The Past…..

Life was different in 1944 when our family (Jesse, Vesta, Eileen, and Ramona Mohler) returned to Maxville from ten years living in Geneseo, IL. Dad was a shovel and dragline operator for Midland Electric Coal Co. I attended Maxville School in eighth grade and Mr. David Howdyshell was my much admired teacher. Sherm and Edna Starr ran a general store; we had milk delivery from Frasure and Brown Dairy, Omar bread delivery, and Watkins, and Fuller Brush salesmen.

Life was more family related with much activity in our little community. We had a very active farm bureau group, friendly Chatter Club, home extension work with 4-H and programs with games and folk dances at the school. The ladies in the area met at homes for quilting, families had wiener roasts, and homemade ice cream and watermelon parties at my grandpa Goodlive’s farm on Twp. Rd. 305. We also enjoyed visiting family and friends and going to Logan on Saturday nights to the movies or just parking on Main St. and visiting friends and neighbors. Our days were filled with school and church events, chores, ball games, hay rides, sleigh rides, walking, fishing and hunting, and then we got street lights…..!   More later…. Ramona.

Creek Valley Quilters – meets twice each month on the2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome regardless of your skill level. If you are interested and would like to learn more call Paula Owings at 385-2361.
